Academics : Student Requirements
THE WORD OF GOD
Our aim is to assist you in forming a disciplined life style with regard to building spiritual character. The Word of God is paramount in achieving this goal; therefore, emphasis will be as follows:
1. Daily Reading in the Scriptures - We will read through the entire New Testament through the school year, approx. 2 chapters a day.
2. You will be required to record your reading and what the Lord is speaking to your heart about during these times.
A HEART FOR WORSHIP & PRAYER
A major focus of the M.T.I. is to help you develop in your spiritual life and relationship toward God and the other students. It is imperative that you come with a heart to worship and pray every morning. Each student will be required to lead the worship and prayer times throughout the year and share what the Lord is doing.
MORAL & ETHICAL EXCELLENCE
The Ministry Training Institute is committed to bringing accountability into your life so that you can walk in the holiness that being a disciple of Christ demands. Students are expected to live their lives in a way that brings honour to the Lord Jesus and to the School and Church. Students are committed to not use alcohol, tobacco, narcotics of any kind, nor participate in sexually promiscuous behaviour, illegal activities of any sort, gossip or slanderous speech, insubordinate or obstinate behaviour towards government or church authorities or any other practices that will bring disrepute to the name of Christ.
PARTICIPATION IN CHURCH MINISTRY
Every student will choose an area of ministry where they will be required to serve. The choice must be approved by the Ministries Department Head and the M.T.I. Dean of Students. This activity will be evaluated by those you are serving under and will be graded for your overall performance. The following ministries have been approved for this program: The Youth Dept., Young Adults; Super Church Children's Min.; Teleios; The School of Ministry (office); Heritage Christian School; The Music Dept.
THE THREE OUTREACHES
Acceptance in the Full Program of the Ministry Training Institute is contingent upon the applicant's agreement to participate in the designated mission outreaches. These outreaches are vital to the development of character, the experience in ministry and team building. Students are required to have a current Passport.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
Most courses will require extra time for study. You will have an average of an hour and a half to two hours of study every evening. This will predominantly be reading, with a few papers. All assignments required must be done in order to complete the courses. Your homework and reading are very important to your personal growth, not only in all that God wants to impart to you this year, but also your commitment to honour teachers' requirements.
THE MINISTRY THESIS
This will be a comprehensive study paper (approx. 30 pages, typed and double-spaced) in a topic that relates to the essentials of the gospel message and approved by the teacher. The components of research will be taught and time is given every week to complete research towards this project. If you apply yourself in those study times most of your research can be completed in that time. Nevertheless time will have to be spent at home to do an adequate job.
ATTENDANCE
The biggest part of participation in the M.T.I. is faithfully attending to all that God has for you. Each day will be full of opportunity for the Holy Spirit to work in each student's life. Therefore attendance is mandatory. Dentist or doctors appointments should be made on your own time and the only reason for a student to miss class would be for serious illness or emergency. In the case of serious illness where more than 50% of a course is missed, arrangements will be made to complete the class missed.
Attendance is 20% of your mark in most classes. Three days away in a ten day course will result in an incomplete as will two days away in a five day course. Absence for any other reason must be pre-arranged with the Dean of Students and should be submitted to his discretion. Communication will be required for any and all absences.
REGULAR CHURCH ATTENDANCE
All students are required to participate every Sunday morning and attendance in the Sunday evening service is highly encouraged. The only exception to attendance would be your work schedule, although if you work during one service then you need to attend the other Sunday service. Attending the M.T.I. does not meet the same need as consistent and faithful Church attendance.
GRADUATION
Full Program : Graduation will be honoured to students who have completed all classes and assignments with a minimum pass of 60%; who have participated on all outreaches and whose character has been proven faithful and above reproach.
Academic Program : Graduation will be honoured to students who have completed all classes and assignments with a minimum pass of 60% and whose character has been proven faithful and above reproach.
PUNCTUALITY
Being on time is an important part of keeping your word. Coming into the classroom late is disruptive and dishonouring to those giving leadership to that class. Therefore, we will not allow students to come late to classes. If a student is late then they must sit out the class and wait for the next one.
DRESS & HYGIENE
Part of the discipline life is maintaining a good appearance and hygiene. Therefore students will be required to dress modestly and with good taste in a nice casual semi-formal manner. We want our students to dress as if they were working in a church office environment. Good hygiene practices will be expected of all students.
